I've tried a variety of neck pillows for long haul flights. I've gone through three different inflatables (including the Rick Steves one) and sorry, Rick, they don't work for me. On the plus side, they're light in weight, but they are heard to inflate to the right pressure and they develop leaks. Next I went to the buckwheat hull filled horseshoetoo bulky, takes up half my carryon, and no support to keep myhead from flopping forward. (It was, however, comfy as a regular pillow when I had to spend the night at an airport once.) I tried the Komfort Collar memory foam pillowtoo bulky and it wasn't that comfortable for me. Too big and uncomfortable around the back of the neck, where the bulge of memory foam just got in the way. My last neck pillow is the one is actually use nowthe Embrace Sleep Collar. It's memory foam, but about half the size of the Komfort Collar. The chin portion is contoured so it doesn't feel as "choky" as the Komfort Kollar, and it has plain fabric across the back of the neck, eliminating the bulge and making it less hot to wear. It's smaller and more compact, too. I bring mine on board my wrapping it round my upper arm before boarding (where you might fasten a blood pressure cuff, which it actually looks a lot like!) so it isn't taking up space in my carry-on.
First neck pillow that I wanted to use more than once, and I never leave it behind now on any transatlantic or transpacific or redeye transcontinental flight.

Travel Neck Support Breakthrough!
A Breakthrough in Travel Comfort - The Embrace Sleep Collar Travel Pillow
“Maintaining proper alignment while traveling or sleeping upright is not only important with regards to personal comfort, but vital in reducing stress, soreness and preventing injury”
Many people find that the travel pillows currently available are more uncomfortable than wearing nothing at all. All too often, travelers arrive fatigued and with a stiff neck that can last for hours or even days. Standard travel pillows, including Memory Foam travel pillows, are bulky and poorly designed for their purpose. The inflatables don't breathe, smell funny, and can leak.
Designs in Progress knew there had to be a better way.
Consulting with doctors, flight attendants, and fashion designers, Designs in Progress set out to find the solution to the travel pillow problem.
Posture equals Comfort.
Standard travel pillows push your head forward and most have no support under the chin. The Embrace Sleep Collar gives full support to the front and the sides of the head and neck.
In two separate focus groups, individuals were seated in actual high back airline chairs and tested the Embrace Sleep Collar against other models. Every participant preferred the Sleep Collar. A flight attendant wrote that it solved the "head-bob" effect.
Dr. Kirsti Neely, a San Francisco chiropractor says "Maintaining proper alignment while traveling or sleeping upright is not only important with regards to personal comfort, but vital in reducing stress, soreness and preventing injury".
"Having tested countless prototypes with different shapes, foams, and fabrics, the Embrace Sleep Collar embodies comfort by design", says Tim Duncan, Vice President Product Development. "The new wicking fabric used in the cover is the same technology used in the latest generation running shirts and keeps the pillow cool", he added. "It all weighs less than a baseball cap".
